God will fight for us
Deuteronomy 20: 4. For the Lord your God is he that goeth with you,
to fight for you against your enemies, to save you.
Joshua 23: 3. And ye have seen all that the Lord your God hath done
unto all these nations because of you; for the Lord your God is he that
hath fought for you.
Psalm 46:1. God is our refuge and strength, a very present help in
Psalm 59: 9. Because of his strength will I wait upon thee: for God
is my defence.
Exodus 14: 14. The Lord shall fight for you, and ye shall hold your
I could probably list 100 or more verse where we see that God does
our fighting for us. Now something to remember is that this doesn’t
mean we can sit back and do nothing, it is more so to be an asurance
to us that God is with us and we should not fear what comes against
us because God is with us.
As Paul exhorts in 1Timothy 6: 12. Fight the good fight of faith, lay
hold on eternal life, whereunto thou art also called, and hast professed
a good profession before many witnesses. We should always fight the
good fight and never back down.
Paul tells us exactly who we are fighting against in Ephesians 6: 12.
For we wrestle not against flesh and blood, but against principalities,
against powers, against the rulers of the darkness of this world, against
spiritual wickedness in high places.
In this modern day spiritual wickedness in high places is rampant and
darkness certainly has a grip upon this world, without question. Under
the guise of peace the enemies of God now do everything they can to
pervert the gospel of Christ and hide the truth of the Word of God and
the boundless love that He has for us. Yes God loves us as we see in
John 3:16 and many other places but we must also remember that God is
jealous as we see in Deuteronomy 4: 24. For the Lord thy God is a consuming
fire, even a jealous God.
God loves us and made the ultimate sacrifice to save us but if we deny
that sacrifice we shall be judged for doing so. This much is certain,
for God is just above anything and any of us.
In the Old Testament it was sometimes necessary for men to pick up
a sword and fight for the Lord. Not that the Lord needed them to fight
for Him, more so He used these men to show His glory to the world as
we see with Gideon in Judges. God smote a mighty army of Midianites
with 300 men. Time and time again we see the Lord using a smaller number
of men to defeat a much larger force. God does our fighting for us if
we let Him. When we rush off on our own is when we lose as we see with
the Israelites trying to take the promised land after God had told them
they would wander for forty years because they didn’t trust in
Now in the day of grace that we now live in the Lord doesn’t
call for us to raise up a sword against our enemies as a matter of fact
He told us to love them. Matthew 5:44. But I say unto you, Love your
enemies, bless them that curse you, do good to them that hate you, and
pray for them which despitefully use you, and persecute you;
Now let me say before I go any further that I am not saying that Jesus
taught that we should just lay down and let our enemies destroy us that’s
not what I am saying at all. What I am saying is that as an individual
it is not our job to seek to fight anyone. That’s why when we
read about our brothers and sisters being persecuted in countries like
Romania and Russia, they did not hate the people that persecuted them,
but more over loved them and prayed for them daily. It is the job of
our leaders to undertake to protection of our country as we see in Romans
13:1-5. As a veteran of the armed forces I will stand and say that I
can think of few things (excluding the work of the Lord of course) that
are more noble than serving ones country. It is indeed a noble deed
to do and should be appreciated by those that don’t do so.
Jesus never taught civil rebellion or anything of the sort, we are
to be subject to the powers that be as He said to give to Caesar the
things which belonged to Caesar, while exhorting us to also give to
God the things which belong to God. The Lord knows all things and He
knew that if we followed Him we would face persecution. He warned of
this more than once in the Bible but He also knew that one day He would
You see for now we are subject to dark powers and such. Jesus told
us that we would have tribulation but He also gave us reason to rejoice.
John 16: 33. These things I have spoken unto you, that in me ye might
have peace. In the world ye shall have tribulation: but be of good cheer;
I have overcome the world.
If you are in Christ the tribulations that you shall face on this earth
are only temporary and you shouldn’t worry because to be in Christ
is to have overcome the world. God will fight for us now and in the
times to come. The road before us may look dark but we must continue
to focus on the light that is Christ Jesus, because if we are a child
of God we know that He will take care of us and we know that we shall
spend eternity with Him one day all this heartache and pain shall be
gone for good and we shall sing the praises of our Lord and Saviour
forever and ever.
Revelation 19: 11. And I saw heaven opened, and behold a white horse;
and he that sat upon him was called Faithful and True, and in righteousness
he doth judge and make war.
12. His eyes were as a flame of fire, and on his head were many crowns;
and he had a name written, that no man knew, but he himself.
13. And he was clothed with a vesture dipped in blood: and his name
is called The Word of God.
14. And the armies which were in heaven followed him upon white horses,
clothed in fine linen, white and clean.
15. And out of his mouth goeth a sharp sword, that with it he should
smite the nations: and he shall rule them with a rod of iron: and he
treadeth the winepress of the fierceness and wrath of Almighty God.
16. And he hath on his vesture and on his thigh a name written, KING
OF KINGS, AND LORD OF LORDS.
As in the Old Testament we see in the New Jesus riding down in front
of the army to fight for it and for the Saints left on earth. God does
our fighting for us if we only let Him.
Revelation 20: 9. And they went up on the breadth of the earth, and
compassed the camp of the saints about, and the beloved city: and fire
came down from God out of heaven, and devoured them.
For the last time God will do our fighting for us. The devil has many
tricks and will use many things to try and stop us from spreading the
gospel and showing the light to darkened world and helping to lead the
blind to the Saviour who will give them sight. The spiritual wickedness
in high places may have many faces but the root of it is from the devil
God loves us more than we can begin to imagine and He wishes for us
to come to Him and to spend all eternity with Him in heaven. But we
must come to Him by faith. Only the Blood of Jesus can cleanse us from
our sins and only faith in our Lord and Saviour Jesus Christ can save
us because of the grace of God.
I pray that is anyone reading this doesn’t know Jesus as there
personal Saviour and doesn’t know the peace that can only be found
by accepting Him as such that they would do so now. Its not a long drawn
out process of works it nothing that can be earned it’s a gift
that must be accepted by faith.
Just admit that you’re a sinner lost in need of salvation. Repent
of your sins and believe in Jesus in your heart. Ask the Lord to come
into your heart and save you and He will. It is that simple. When you
have done this you shall have eternal life and you shall one day see
Father I pray that you would take this simple thing which I have written
and use it Your glory and Your pupose. I ask that You bless it and use
it help strengthen my brothers and sisters in Christ and if it is possible
help some poor lost soul to find You and the salvation that can only
be found in You. In the mighty holy righteous name of Jesus I pray and
humbly ask these things.
