Education is a
really wonderfull thing. I love the fact that in America anyone and
everyone can receive some type of education. There really is no excuse
now days for not making something of yourself with all the educational
oppurtunities available to all.
In Christianity,
however, education has become a god. In most denominations today one
has to have a Masters degree to full the pulpit. In all the Christian
schools that I know of, one must have a Master's degree in order to
teach. You might ask, "what's wrong with that?"
Well, there are
several things wrong with this mentality. First, this pattern of requiring
a "formal education" in order to be a leader in the church
is worldy. How is that? Well, did Peter have a Master's degree? Did
any of the apostles have a formal education? According the scripture
they did not (Acts 4:13). They simply had the Holy Spirit; which is
all they needed. According to the Bible you and I have THAT SAME Holy
Spirit living within ourselves AND last time I checked when Christians
make decisions, they are to SEEK GOD. By requiring degrees "Christian"
organizations and "colleges" have most likely eliminated
the person God would have chosen for that position. In fact, scripture
gives the idea that God WOULD NOT chose the "super-educated"...
and there is good reason.
1 Corinthians
1 -[26]
For ye see your calling, brethren, how that not many wise men after
the flesh, not many mighty, not many noble, are called:
[27] But God hath chosen the foolish things of the world to confound
the wise; and God hath chosen the weak things of the world to
confound the things which are mighty;
WHY? Verse 29 tells us...
[29] That no flesh
should glory in his presence.
Again, being in
Christ and filled with the Holy Spirit is ALL we need, look at the
next verse...
[30] But of him
are ye in Christ Jesus, who of God is made unto us wisdom, and righteousness,
and sanctification, and redemption:
Seems to me that
verse 30 says that in Christ we have all we need. I fail to see how
seeking God for the right person is some how "not good enough"
for Christian leaders today. I guess the sad hard truth is that they
possibly aren't lead by the Spirit and therefore rely on worldly methods.
ALSO, one thing
that I have never heard anyone say... I thought about this the other
day. You know one apostle did have an education. Which apostle
was the only one the kill Christians? Who was the MOST educated apostle?
PAUL! The most educated and trained person that became an apostle
was the one that KILLED CHRISTIANS!!! Is that sinking in? Evidently
all his education and training at the feet of Gamaliel DID NOT DO
ONE BIT OF GOOD. As I recall, he was the only apostle that Jesus had
to knock off his beast! All his education didn't reveal Christ to
him. All his education did not help him understand the Old Testament
scriptures (or else he would have known who Jesus was).
Finally, we have
made education a god today because we put it in front of God. We don't
seek God for the right people to do HIS WORK, we look at thier resumes.
No wonder Christianity is in the state it is in!
