Study on Genesis Chapter One
1. In the beginning God created the heaven and the earth.
*God is eternal, but mankind and the earth had a beginning as did the
first and second heaven.
2. And the earth was without form, and void; and darkness was upon
the face of the deep. And the Spirit of God moved upon the face of the
waters.
*There was an earth before Adam, but it was void meaning that there
was nothing either to it or left of it. What happened to the first earth?
Honestly I don’t know. But the earth and the heavens were covered
with waters. This does not speak of the flood during Noah’s time
because then only the earth was covered with water, because the bible
says that birds were able to fly in the first heaven.
3. And God said, Let there be light: and there was light.
*Questions have been raised in the past as to why God would create
light twice, honestly this is a moot question, God did not create light
twice. God only created light once. Verse 3 says “God said, Let
there be light”. Honestly it seems silly to believe that God almighty
needed the sun for there to be light. To make such a suggestion is absurd.
At this point there was no firmament or heaven for the sun to be in,
it was still all covered with water.
4. And God saw the light, that it was good: and God divided the light
from the darkness.
5. And God called the light Day, and the darkness he called Night. And
the evening and the morning were the first day.
*First the evening and then the morning because there was darkness
first and then light. That’s why in the Old Testament times the
new day started at 9pm., in the evening. Hence the evening and then
the morning.
6. And God said, Let there be a firmament in the midst of the waters,
and let it divide the waters from the waters.
7. And God made the firmament, and divided the waters which were under
the firmament from the waters which were above the firmament: and it
was so.
*The Firmament is the first and second heaven. This is known because
there is a sea in heaven, Round about the throne of God almighty as
we see in Revelation 4:6. You can see in verse 8 that indeed this firmament
is called heaven.
8. And God called the firmament Heaven. And the evening and the morning
were the second day.
*This firmament called heaven is the first and second heaven or otherwise
known as the sky where we see the birds fly (the first heaven) and outer
space where the planets and stars are (second heaven). The third heaven
is where the throne of God is, which is above the crystal sea.
9. And God said, Let the waters under the Heaven be gathered together
unto one place, and let the dry land appear: and it was so.
*In the beginning the earth was covered with water completely hence
God caused the waters to be gathered together to make dry land.
10. And God called the dry land Earth; and the gathering together of
the waters called he Seas: and God saw that it was good.
*Verse 10 is self explanitory, God called the dry land earth and the
waters the seas. In the end of the verse we see “God saw that
it was good”. Now God doesn’t create anything that’s
not perfect. We corrupt ourselves God doesn’t corrupt us. So obviously
when God divided the land and water it was done perfectly.
11. And God said, Let the earth bring forth grass, the herb yielding
seed, and the fruit tree yielding fruit after his kind, whose seed is
in itself, upon the earth: and it was so
*Verse 11 tells us that God caused the grass and herbs and trees to
come forth upon the earth. At the end of the verse we see “and
it was so”, this proves that God is almighty because He said it
and it was so. No more discusion God is Almighty!!!
12. And the earth brought forth grass, and herb yielding seed after
his kind, and the tree yielding fruit, whose seed was in itself, after
his kind: and God saw that it was good.
*Self-explanitory, and once again proof that when God says it, it happens.
13. And the evening and the morning were the third day.
*End of day three
14. And God said, Let there be lights in the firmament of the heaven
to divide the day from the night; and let them be for signs, and for
seasons, and for days, and years:
15. And let them be for lights in the firmament of the heaven to give
light upon the earth: and it was so.
*Here the bible tells us why the sun and the moon were created.
16. And God made two great lights; the greater light to rule the day,
and the lesser light to rule the night: he made the stars also.
*The greater light we know is the sun and the lesser is the moon.
17. And God set them in the firmament of the heaven to give light upon
the earth,
*They could not have been placed in heaven before Genesis 1:6 because
there was no firmament/heaven until then.
18. And to rule over the day and over the night, and to divide the
light from the darkness: and God saw that it was good.
*The sun is in the sky by day and the moon by night. Also the sun and
moon are symbolic of Jesus and the Church. The moon gives off no light
but it shines with the light of the sun, the church gives off no light
but that of Jesus. The church shines because Jesus shines His light
upon it.
19. And the evening and the morning were the fourth day.
*End of the fourth day.
20. And God said, Let the waters bring forth abundantly the moving
creature that hath life, and fowl that may fly above the earth in the
open firmament of heaven.
21. And God created great whales, and every living creature that moveth,
which the waters brought forth abundantly, after their kind, and every
winged fowl after his kind: and God saw that it was good.
*Here we see God creating all the living creatures of the sea and the
fowl of the air, and once again God did it perfect. Another thing that
can be drawn here the same as it can be drawn from previous verses is
that God see’s everything “God saw”.
22. And God blessed them, saying, Be fruitful, and multiply, and fill
the waters in the seas, and let fowl multiply in the earth.
23. And the evening and the morning were the fifth day.
*Here we see God blessing what he created and commanding them to fill
the waters and the fowl to do the same in the earth. Now it doesn’t
say “command” but if God tells you to do it, take it as
a command.
24. And God said, Let the earth bring forth the living creature after
his kind, cattle, and creeping thing, and beast of the earth after his
kind: and it was so.
25. And God made the beast of the earth after his kind, and cattle after
their kind, and every thing that creepeth upon the earth after his kind:
and God saw that it was good
*Here we see God creating on the beginning of the 6th day all the animals
that walk on the earth, as on the 5th He made all the animals that swim
and fly.
26. And God said, Let us make man in our image, after our likeness:
and let them have dominion over the fish of the sea, and over the fowl
of the air, and over the cattle, and over all the earth, and over every
creeping thing that creepeth upon the earth.
*Verse 26 is the first refference in the bible to the Holy Trinity.
There are some that think Jesus did not have a physical form until He
was born, that is false and can be proven with a simple Bible study.
First off “God said, Let us make man in our image, after our likeness”
We were created after the likeness of our Lord and Saviour Jesus Christ
not the other way around.
John 1: 1. In the beginning was the Word, and the Word was with God,
and the Word was God.
2. The same was in the beginning with God.
3. All things were made by him; and without him was not any thing made
that was made.
4. In him was life; and the life was the light of men.
5. And the light shineth in darkness; and the darkness comprehended
it not
The Word spoken of here is our Lord and Saviour Jesus, we know this
by Revelation 19: 13. And he was clothed with a vesture dipped in blood:
and his name is called The Word of God.
The context of Rev. ch19 is the second coming of our Lord Jesus Christ.
So we see that Jesus is the Word in the flesh and that the Word is the
creator and the Creator is almighty. Jesus is God plain and simple.
For another refference that Jesus had a physical form before He was
born you can look at Daniel 3:25 notice the end of the verse “the
form of the fourth is like the Son of God”. God the Father, God
the Son, and God the Holy Spirit are all the same God. The Trinity is
supported in Matthew 28:19 where Jesus tells the disciples to “teach
all nations, baptizing them in the name of the Father, and the Son,
and of the Holy Ghost:” The Lord said it and that settles it whether
you choose to believe it or not.
Also in verse 26 we see God giving men dominion over the fish and fowl
and cattle and earth and every creeping thing. Man is not an animal
as new agers and evolutionist would try to lead us to believe. Man was
set above the animals from the beginning.
27. So God created man in his own image, in the image of God created
he him; male and female created he them.
*Here we see that male and female were created in the image of the
Lord!!!
28. And God blessed them, and God said unto them, Be fruitful, and
multiply, and replenish the earth, and subdue it: and have dominion
over the fish of the sea, and over the fowl of the air, and over every
living thing that moveth upon the earth.
*First off we see that God from the beginning blessed us, however many
people refuse to see the blessing. Many refuse to take this free blessing
which is the sacrifice of our Saviour on the cross at calvary. Don’t
kid yourself for a milisecond. God knew exactly in the beginning what
must take place. The blessing is eternal life through our Lord and Saviour
Jesus Christ.
29. And God said, Behold, I have given you every herb bearing seed,
which is upon the face of all the earth, and every tree, in the which
is the fruit of a tree yielding seed; to you it shall be for meat.
30. And to every beast of the earth, and to every fowl of the air, and
to every thing that creepeth upon the earth, wherein there is life,
I have given every green herb for meat: and it was so.
*In the beginning, before Adam and Eve sinned against the Lord God,
man was only to eat fruits and vegetables. Now some would say that man
should still do this, however we can read in verse 30 the animals were
to only eat of the green things aswell. Animals, since they are under
the dominion of man were cursed right along with man. If it was wrong
for man to eat meat God would have said so. Countless times through
out the Bible the Lord gives instruction as to how and what kinds of
meat to eat. This was Old Testament doctrine, now under the New Testament
there is no longer any restriction. (see Acts 10:11-15 also see Genesis
9:3 to see where God gives man permisson to eat the flesh of animals.)
Now when the Lord returns the curse will be lifted and all the animals
and mankind will return to the way it was supposed to be vegitarians.
31. And God saw every thing that he had made, and, behold, it was very
good. And the evening and the morning were the sixth day.
*We see that God created everything, heaven and earth, man and beast
in 6 days and the it was all created perfectly.
